Determination of Polyphosphates Using Ion Chromatography with Suppressed Conductivity Detection

چکیده

INTRODUCTION Polyphosphates are used for a wide variety of industrial applications due to their sequestering and dispersing properties. Polyphosphate samples are commonly characterized by various end-group titration methods that provide an estimate of average polyphosphate chain length, but no information on the relative amounts of individual polyphosphate oligomers. Manufacturers and end-users of polyphosphates need to determine the distribution of polyphosphate chain lengths because chain length is known to affect sequestering and dispersing properties. A rapid method for the separation of polyphosphates with chain lengths to about 35 phosphate units is presented in this Application Note. In this method, polyphosphates are eluted from a 2-mm IonPacAS11 anion-exchange column with a sodium hydroxide gradient. The ASRS (Anion Self-Regenerating Suppressor) is used to suppress the high hydroxide concentrations needed to elute large, multiply-charged polyphosphates. Steep hydroxide gradients can be used without a substantial increase in background conductivity because of the exceptional suppression capacity of the ASRS. As a result, suppressed conductivity detection can be used to directly generate polyphosphate chain-length distribution profiles. Popular applications of this method include: EQUIPMENT Dionex DX-500 system consisting of: GP40 Gradient Pump, high-performance microbore configuration ED40 Electrochemical Detector or CD20 Conductivity Detector DS3 Conductivity Cell LC20 Chromatography Enclosure EO1 Eluent Organizer PeakNet Chromatography Workstation

Determination of biogenic amines in alcoholic beverages by ion chromatography with suppressed conductivity detection and integrated pulsed amperometric detection.

The determination of biogenic amines in alcoholic beverages is important to assess the potential risks associated with the consumption of high concentrations of these compounds. In addition, product storage conditions and the length of storage can cause the formation of biogenic amines that reduce product quality. We report a new method using cation-exchange chromatography with either suppresse...

Determination of trace anions in high-nitrate matrices by ion chromatography.

An ion chromatography method was developed to determine trace anionic contamination in matrices that have a high concentration of nitrate ion. Contaminant anions of interest were separated on an IonPac AS15 high-capacity anion-exchange column and detected by suppressed conductivity detection. An EG40 eluent generator was used to prepare high-purity and carbonate-free potassium hydroxide. Using ...

Methods Development Using Ion-Pair Chromatography with Suppressed Conductivity Detection

INTRODUCTION Mobile-phase ion chromatography (MPIC) is a technique that combines ion-pair chromatography with suppressed conductivity detection. Ion-pair chromatography is commonly used in combination with UV detection, in which case it is referred to as reversedphase ion-pair chromatography (RPIPC). MPIC has the advantage of using conductivity detection, which serves as a universal detection m...

A rapid ion chromatography column-switching method for online sample pretreatment and determination of l-carnitine, choline and mineral ions in milk and powdered infant formula

A simple and rapid column-switching ion chromatography with non-suppressed conductivity detection method was developed for simultaneous determination of L-carnitine, choline and mineral ions (free sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium ions) in milk and powdered infant formula samples. On-line sample clean-up was achieved on the pretreatment column Dionex IonPac NG1 (50 mm 4 mm, i.d.), with p...
